Danylo Yavgusishyn

Danylo Yavgusishyn, also known as Aonishiki Arata, is a well-known Ukrainian sumo wrestler who, as of 2026, has won his third Emperor's Cup, the oldest football club tournament in Japan (held under the auspices of the Japan Football Association).

Danylo Yavgusishyn is a citizen of Ukraine, as he was born and raised in Vinnytsia. He moved to Japan after the start of the full-scale invasion.

In 2025, he said he wanted to obtain Japanese citizenship. According to the athlete, during Russia's full-scale war against Ukraine, Yavgusishyn's parents live in Germany.

In 2025, the sumo wrestler did not want to talk about the war in Ukraine. He said his country was in a very difficult situation, but he is a sumo wrestler, so he would like to talk about sumo.

Danylo Yavgusishyn won the Emperor's Cup for the first time in November 2025, for the second time in January 2026 and for the third time in July 2026.
